email without a phone number.
create a vaelmail account without a name, phone number or recovery email. here’s what you need to save instead.
you don’t need to hand over a phone number to start receiving email with vael. choose an address, save your account number, and you’re ready to settle in.
there’s a trade-off worth understanding before you begin: we don’t have a recovery email to send a reset link to. keeping your account number safe is part of owning the account.
what signup asks for.
you choose a main address at @vael.email, select free or plus, and complete the verification challenge. we don’t ask for your real name, phone number, home address, date of birth or identity documents.
free is enough to receive mail. if you want to send from your main address, choose plus. our free and plus guide explains the difference before you decide.
make your account.
open create account on vaelmail.com. choose an address you’ll be comfortable giving to other people.
choose your plan and finish the signup challenge.
save the 16-digit account number shown during setup. keep every digit, including any zeroes at the start.
enter the number again to finish setup, then open webmail.
your email address and account number do different jobs. the address is for receiving mail and sharing with people. the number is a secret sign-in credential. don’t put it in a profile, email signature or support message.
keep a way back in.
store your number somewhere private that you can reach if your usual device stops working. if you use a password manager, think about how you’ll unlock it without relying on mail from this account. a separate private backup can help avoid that loop.
next, open security and add a passkey or authenticator app. these protect sign-in alongside your number. recovery codes replace a second factor once; they do not replace a lost account number.
if you plan to use the no-javascript, tor or i2p site, keep an authenticator app enabled. passkeys need a compatible browser on the regular website. there’s more in using vael without javascript.
fewer signup details, with clear limits.
not asking for a phone number reduces the personal details needed to register. it doesn’t make every email anonymous. senders and recipients can know your address, messages can contain identifying details, and infrastructure providers process connection information.
ordinary mail on vael is not end-to-end encrypted. our privacy policy and plain-language privacy guide explain what the service protects and what it still processes.
ready to begin? choose your address, save your number, then take a moment to protect your sign-in.
